Come to Lido not just for the sea: three naturalistic oases to visit

Travel tips

Discover San Nicolò, Alberoni and Ca' Roman

Our island is not only golden, but also green: walking around the Venice Lido, in fact, you are always surrounded by tree-lined avenues, parks and colorful flowerbeds.
And here there are also three naturalistic protection oases to be visited in spring, even with children.

Here’s which they are and how to access them:

Oasis of San Nicolò
Located on the northern tip of the island, San Nicolò runs for a kilometer and a half along the coast, up to the first bathing establishments. The oasis is made up of a pine forest and a particular dune system where some protected species nest, and it is possible to visit it freely, on foot or by bicycle.
For a safe ride without disturbing the local fauna, you can contact the Lipu manager of the San Nicolò Oasis.

WWF Oasis of Alberoni
In Alberoni there are 160 hectares of naturalistic protection oasis made up of thirty hectares of pine forest and a dune system that has no equal on the Adriatic coast. Here you can find very peculiar habitats, from pioneer dunes to mobile dunes, inter-dunal wet meadows, multitude of reeds and rushes, marsh helleborine and juniper. Here too some small wading birds’ nest, the fratino and fraticello, and there are very particular species of flora and fauna.
The area is open all year round, but you can reserve thematic guided tours, also for groups and schools.

Ca’ Roman nature reserve
For this third oasis we must move beyond Pellestrina Island. A green wooded area to the extreme south of the shores, Ca’ Roman is connected to Pellestrina by a section of the Murazzi dyke and it can also be reached from Chioggia in a few minutes by vaporetto. Very isolated and therefore lush and intact, it has become the perfect habitat for numerous species of migratory and sedentary birds.

To visit Ca’ Roman in Pellestrina and get to know its fauna, Lipu organizes boat trips in mid-May and early October.
